Bettina Montavon

Bettina MONTAVON, independent author-photographer, born in Lausanne in 1957, received an arts degree from the University of Geneva. She works in Geneva and has her own photography studio.

She attended photography workshops taught by Jean-Marie Périer and Patrick Messina at the "Rencontres internationales de la photographie" in Arles as well as workshops organized by Claudio Porcarelli and Giovanni Gastel in Italy. She devotes now a big part of her time to working to the portrait.

"In photography, the break is constitutive, primary: the sample is instantly taken. However, one is entitled to ask: who takes what? Word has it that the photographer seizes a fragment of the outside world (a frame). But it also seems quite fair to say: the outside captures a fragment of me; it seems to attract something from inside, part of my thoughts, of my state of mind. It is in this way that Robert Frank, like Godard, reveals a little about himself."
